Victim in triple L.A. shooting ID'd as high school football star

The coroner's office identified a teenager killed Monday in a triple shooting in South Los Angeles as a former Jefferson High School football star.

Edwin Ray Johns, Jr., 18, was shot in the upper body multiple times and died at the scene.

The drive-by shooting occurred near 52nd Place and McKinley Avenue at 2:41 p.m., said Los Angeles police Officer Sara Faden.

A 57-year-old Hispanic man who was shot in the shoulder and an 11-year- old girl who was shot in the foot were taken to hospitals, where they are listed as stable.

Police were looking for a gunman in a gray car. The shooting could have been gang-related, Faden said.

Relatives and friends told KCAL 9 News that Johns was not a gang member. "He and my son ... all they live for is football," said his aunt, Glenda Trapp.

"He was a good kid. He wasn't involved in no gangs," said friend Harvey Irvin. "He went to church. He went to school every day."

Johns graduated last year from Jefferson High.
